How to thread individual components onto a 0 9lc fiber optic patch cord

How to thread individual components onto a 0 9lc fiber optic patch cord

Threading components onto a 0.9 LC fiber optic patch cord involves carefully preparing the fiber, sliding the connector parts in order, applying epoxy, and securing the fiber to ensure proper alignment and minimal signal loss.Tools and Materials NeededLC fiber connector kit (simplex or duplex)Fiber optic stripper and cutterHigh-precision cleaverAlcohol wipes or fiber cleaning penEpoxy and syringe (two-part epoxy)Connector holder or V-groove clampMicroscope for inspectionSafety glassesStep-by-Step Procedure1. Prepare the Work Area and FiberEnsure a clean, dust-free workspace.Wear safety glasses to protect against fiber shards and epoxy exposure.Strip approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the outer jacket from the 0.9 mm fiber using a fiber stripper, exposing the bare glass fiber without nicking it . 2. Thread Connector ComponentsSlide the cable support onto the fiber first, narrow end first.Next, thread the crimp sleeve onto the fiber, orienting the metal end toward the connector tip .For duplex cords, split the jacket into two separate fibers at least 9 inches (230 mm) from the end and thread each component onto the respective fiber . 3. Clean and Cleave the FiberWipe the exposed fiber with an alcohol pad to remove dust, grease, or fingerprints.Use a high-precision cleaver to cut the fiber at a 90° angle, ensuring a smooth, defect-free end face . 4. Prepare and Apply EpoxyMix the two-part epoxy according to the kit instructions.Load the epoxy into the supplied syringe.Insert the syringe tip into the small tube at the back of the connector and carefully inject epoxy without overfilling . 5. Insert Fiber into ConnectorCarefully insert the cleaned and cleaved fiber into the connector ferrule, ensuring it reaches the internal metal contact and aligns properly.Use a connector holder or V-groove clamp to secure the fiber during curing . 6. Cure and InspectAllow the epoxy to cure as specified by the manufacturer, typically using a curing oven.Inspect the fiber end face under a microscope to ensure proper alignment and no cracks or debris . 7. Crimp and SecureSlide the crimp sleeve over the connector and crimp it to secure the fiber.Place the assembled connector in a patch panel or distribution frame, ensuring it remains stable . 8. Test and LabelTest the connection using a power meter or OTDR to verify signal loss is within acceptable limits.Label the fiber for identification and documentation purposes . Following these steps carefully ensures a reliable LC fiber optic connection with minimal signal loss and long-term stability.
